Kananga National High School (KNHS), with Grade 7 teachers as the main persons in charge, celebrated its 1st Friday Mass, the first for 2026, this afternoon at the KNHS covered court.
Fr. Joseph Gregory Buñales, Assistant Parish Priest of the Holy Family Parish, led the celebration of the Mass, wherein he emphasized in his homily the people’s “forgetfulness.”
Buñales said that because people tend to easily forget important events, God seemingly intentionally included, as an integral part of the Holy Eucharist, the phrase, “Do this in memory of me.”
“Nag-celebrate kita ug anniversary, monthsary kay kalimtanon man ta (We celebrate anniversaries and monthsaries because we easily forget),” Buñales told the students, teachers, and non-teaching staff who attended the Mass.
Moreover, he said that today marked the celebration of the feast of the Black Nazarene in Quiapo, Manila.
Buñales shared that when he was still a student, he was given a chance to attend a Holy Mass prior to the Traslacion (the transferring of the Black Nazarene from Luneta back to the Minor Basilica and National Shrine of Jesus Nazareno, commonly known as Quiapo Church) at midnight.
He said that while the distance from Luneta to Quiapo Church is not that far, the flock of people wanting to touch the Nazarene caused the procession to move very slowly.
Buñales ended the Mass by emphasizing that in whatever situation, people must not forget the word of God. I via Heart Tutor, Mary Romagos, The Pipelines News Digital
